Conservation
We are highly concerned about the
conservation of our water. We know how precious our water is and
want to pass on this knowledge to you.
With this in mind, we give you the
following resources to help you become more aware of water conservation
and what you can do to save water and money!
Water Awareness
Every day we do (or avoid doing) things which affect the amount of
water we use and the condition or quality of the water we dispose.
Here's an opportunity for you to consider what your contribution is, to
the problem and to the solution.
Water
Statistics
A lot of water is wasted because so many people give little thought to
where water comes from and where it goes after they use it. Yet less
than 1% of the Earth's water is available for human consumption. And
there is no "new" water on Earth.

water because it is the right thing to do.

calculator to see water amount that is being lost.
Read
any good meters lately?
If you want to do your part to help conserve our natural resources and,
you want to save money. Monitor
your water use by reading your meter and help preserve the environment
while you save money.
Other
things to be aware of
Every commercial and residential cooking
operation produces waste fats, oils and grease (FOG).
Heated grease will eventually solidify somewhere in the piping
system that can cause blockages that in turn can cause sewage spills,
manhole overflows and/or backups.
Grease blockages, sewage spills, manhole
overflows and backups are not new, they occur in all cities and towns. Due to the increase of residents, restaurants
and other food services in the Rogers area, grease contribution to the
City’s sanitary sewer system has greatly increased.
This increase has put a greater burden upon the existing
sanitary sewer system.
Grease is found in such things as meat
fats, lard, cooking oil, shortening, butter & margarine, food
scraps, baking goods, sauces and dairy products.
Therefore, the City of Rogers has
instituted a proactive grease abatement program that includes:
- Educating
residents, by use of door hangers, on the proper way to handle greases
and oil:
Ø
Never pour grease down sink drains or into toilets.
Ø
Scrape grease and food scraps from plates, pots, pans, utensils,
grills and cooking surfaces into a can that will be thrown into the
trash or directly into the trash for disposal.
Ø
Do not put grease down garbage disposals.
Ø
Use baskets and/or strainers in sinks to catch food scraps and
other solids. Empty these drain
baskets/strainers into the trash for disposal.
Ø
Communicate with your friends and neighbors about the problem of
grease in the sanitary sewer system and how to keep it out.
- Coordinating
efforts requiring restaurants and other food service businesses to:
Ø
Operate with the proper grease interceptor sizing
Ø
Improve and/or maintain their grease interceptor maintenance
Ø
Utilize Clean Kitchen Practices to minimize grease loading
within Rogers’ sanitary sewer system.
Remember, every home and business is
part of the grease problem. You can help
remedy this problem by keeping grease out of the sewer.
