To avoid freezing problems with your pipes, water customers should take the following steps:
| 1. | Foundation air vents and crawl spaces should be closed or covered up. |
| 2. | Cracks in foundations should be filled with mortar, insulation, etc. |
| 3. | Heat should be left on inside of home - at least 60 degrees. |
| 4. | All garden hoses should be disconnected from outside faucets. |
| 5. | Exposed water pipes should be wrapped or covered. |
| 6. | Faucets may be left dripping at a fast drip in extremely cold weather. |
| 7. | Unheated vacant houses should be winterized and the following should also be checked:
| a. | Rogers Water Utilities personnel should shut off water to the house at the meter. |
| b. | Pipes, hot water tanks, and commodes should be completely drained. (a licensed plumber can blow air through pipes to drain them of water) |
| c. | Pour "RV" antifreeze into drains, toilet bowls, and flush tanks. |
|
| 8. | All lids on water meter boxes should be kept securely closed to keep freezing winds out. |
| 9. | Permanent, highly visible house numbers on your house will help service crews respond to emergencies as quickly as possible. |
By following these few easy steps, you can help avoid the inconvenience and hassle of frozen pipes this winter.
